Flight

This Kinetic sculpture is an attempt to abstract the rhythmic movement of a bird flapping its wings during flight. Inspired by the works Reuben Margolin, wave kinetics were explored to represent this movement in a cyclical manner. A single actuator connected to a set of ‘position determinants/discs’ is used to generate the movement effect of the abstracted motion. The final installation is presented as capturing a dynamic instant from nature, and slowing it down from its real life speed for audiences to observe at their own pace and view from different directions.
