This Sea

The sea has been engraved in the Emirate’s culture and its people’s psyche throughout the nation’s history. The artwork is a tribute to This Sea; an acknowledgement of its might and a gratitude for its bounties.

The installation embodies a moment of the sea’s surface dynamics held in space and time. The work employs elements we use to interact with This Sea - fishing sinkers and strings; which within lies the artwork’s paradox.

The parametric ensemble might look beautiful, its elements however (along with their proximity and density), are dangerous. The leaded fishing sinkers are often swallowed by fish, poisoning them and their feeding chain. Quantity and diversity of fish in the Gulf are also on the decline due to methods and volumes of fishing.

With minimal materiality, the works attempts to show beauty while sending the warning message at the same time.
